Some garden maintenance tips for August

- Continue to remove spent blooms to prolong the flowering seaon on some plants
- Give plants water as necessary and consider applying a good mulch to beds
- Continue to tie in new growths on Climbers
- Prune rambler roses
- Cut old flowering stems of rushes and other marginal plants in ponds to prevent them from seeding
- It is still possible to make late sowings of beetroots and carrots, although they may need cloches later as the weather gets cooler
