A square garden can feel quite static and uninteresting, the solution here is to appear to change the overall shape of the garden. Circles, rectangles or angles can be incorporated into a square garden design to transform the overall look and feel of the garden. Strong flowing curves can create a sense of movement and distracts the eye from the straight lines of the boundary.
Alternatively turning the garden at an angle of 45 degrees to the boundary can create long diagonal lines which will immediately create a sense of space and draw the eye away from the true shape of the garden. Additionally planting can be used to soften the boundaries, and when selected correctly can almost make them disappear.
